Mark has held middle and senior-level leadership roles in corporate and not-for-profit organisations for more than 10 years. From leading staff and volunteer groups of 5,000+, Mark has a solid understanding of how to implement effective policies, processes, and development initiatives for organisations, and people, to thrive.
Mark has been a store manager with Michael Hill International; a Commercial Programme Venue Manger for IMG at the Rugby World Cup; the Head of Development and Capability at SCOUTS New Zealand, and; the Director of Development/Comms, Marketing and Fundraising at Presbyterian Support Otago. With a varied background, in areas from the Bay of Islands through the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Manawatu and Wellington, and down to Dunedin, Mark knows that organisations are different, and leaders of those organisations deserve individualised and tailored support.
With well-rounded experience on-the-job, Mark also has an educational background that is extensive. With a Bachelors in Management and Coaching; a graduate diploma in Management; a Masters in Business (HRM), and; a Doctorate in Business (Leadership), you know the recommendations Mark gives have been developed with the highest level of confidence. Mark is also an invited member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, and the Delta Mu Delta Honour Society for excellence in academic achievement.
Mark’s personal achievements are also something he takes great pride in. From being the youngest recipient in the Manawatu to be awarded a KiwiBank Local Hero medal in 2011, to refereeing a first class rugby fixture, Mark continues to give back to communities and challenge himself to be the best he can be.

Doctoral Research by Mark Long
Mark shares key findings from his doctoral research conducted with Fire and Emergency New Zealand, which operates with a significant, highly trained volunteer workforce of almost 14,000 personnel around the country.
Many of the strategies Mark identified through his mixed methods study, can apply and add significant value in a much broader leadership context, regardless of sector and status of the individual – be they volunteer or paid employee.
